Alto flutes are significantly larger than standard concert C flutes. The alto flute is a gorgeous texture in a jazz ensemble or small acoustic combo. The instrument requires stretching your arms further and has a slightly larger key-spread. Many jazz players recommend purchasing a model with a curved head joint to prevent wrist strain.
