Experience playing music: Almost my whole life! I started singing in choirs at age 3, started violin at age 8, and have been in several orchestras, chamber groups, jazz choirs, a funk band, contradance groups, and more. 

Genres of music taught: Classical, fiddle (Celtic, bluegrass, contradance, etc.), pop

Education: Master of Arts in Somatic Counseling Psychology from Naropa University

Personal teaching style/philosophy:  No one is too young nor too old to learn and enjoy playing music. Lesson plans are determined by the student's interests, skill level, and goals.

Violin/Viola Teaching Methods Used at Student Levels

Absolute Beginners: Essential Elements for Strings; ear training; body/instrument interfacing.

Beginner to Intermediate: Ear training; method books; songs related to the student’s individual likes (e. g. video games, ‘pop’ music); support with group repertoire (if playing in a group); audition preparations, etc.

Intermediate to Advanced: Depends on student interests; ear training; support with group repertoire (if playing in a group); audition preparations; introduction to electric violin, associated gear, and usage; etc.

All levels: Instrument care and maintenance; troubleshooting (“when to see a luthier”); instrument evaluation (and upgrade shopping, if desired); tonal intonation, expression, phrasing; musical appreciation; basic music history; etc.

Musical notation and phrasing

Sightreading (treble clef only)

Vocal Lessons:
Minimum age can start at 3 years for a trial lesson. Some children catch on very quickly while others need more time.

Approach: The first lessons emphasize vocal range placement and body support through breath control and posture. Following lessons emphasize ear training with vocal warm-ups and basic music theory. Regular students are encouraged to bring music they like and study the different vocal techniques of their favorite singers. All styles of music are welcome.

Another cool thing about Lauren is her passion for painting! Four of her paintings recently made a picture in an article at Wyoming Public Radio. They are in a show called "My Treaty Ties" at the Fort Bridger State Historic Site in southwest Wyoming.
